I've never been much on decorating for Valentines Day, but this year I decided I would add a few touches as long as it didn't cost much and didn't take a lot of time.

So I started looking through my craft supplies and found a few things I thought I could use.

  • Craft wire
  • Wooden beds
  • Faux Flowers
  • Wall art from the Dollar Tree
  • Wrapping Paper

The gold craft wire was SUPER flexible so it was quite easy to shape into a heart. TOO easy actually because it was difficult to KEEP it in the shape I wanted. But I decided that was okay because once I had added what I wanted to the wire it would be more weighted down and less likely to bend at will. **You could also use a coat hanger if you didn't have any wire on hand.

To create the bead and floral wreath I simply added some beads onto the wire (I started with 9 on either side). Then I cut off the faux flowers from their stems and attached two of them on either side with some hot glue. I continued by adding more beads and more flowers until I had just a couple of inches left on either end.

I bent each end up so the beads wouldn't come off and then I attach another piece of wire to each end. Since the wire was so flexible all I had to do was wrap the wire around the other and form a small knot. To cover the knot I attached more flowers-and Viola! In less than 10 minutes I had a pretty Bead and Floral wall or door hanging. And it didn't cost me anything!

To start my next project I grabbed the framed art that I picked up at the Dollar Tree, the wrapping paper, a glue stick, and scissors.

The framed art had a cute saying on it but wasn't exactly my style. At first, I had thought to paint over the saying, but I fell in love with this paper and the muted colors.

But before I could fill the center with the paper I had to sand down the glitter lettering. It was a messy job but needed as I wanted a totally smooth surface.

Once I wiped down the surface to remove any remaining residue, it was time to measure and cut the paper. Then I used my glue stick and glued the paper into place.

My original thought was to use some construction paper and cut out some hearts, but while I was looking through my craft drawers for some paper, I came across my stencils and a light bulb went off. Instead of going through the time and trouble of cutting the hearts out, all I had to do was pop the heart stencils I had out and use them! Luckily I had several color options to choose from, and they both coordinated well with the wrapping paper!

Since I'm all about texture this year, I also decided to use one of the stencils and trace out a heart onto some burlap I had.

I wanted to create XOXO so for the O's I punched out two circle stencils in pink. Then I started gluing each one in place-starting with a pink heart, the burlap heart, another pink heart, and a brown heart. Then I overlapped the O's onto heart #2 and heart #4. Finally, I grabbed two X's from my vinyl letter stash and place one on heart #1 and heart #3. When I stepped back and looked at the end result I still felt it needed something. So I grabbed the last of the faux flowers I had and glued one to each of the O's and then I took two faux pearls and glued them to the hearts with the X's. Viola! In ten minutes I had another fun piece to hang on our front door or in any room in our home I choose!
