Easy Coffee Filter Valentine Heart Decor
I'm going to show you how to create a simple and pretty heart using cardboard, coffee filters, and hot glue.
I'm not a huge Valentine's Day decorator; but I thought I would add a few small touches here and there this year. My home is pretty neutral; so I wasn't going for the typical pinks or reds. I decided to use some unbleached coffee filters to create my heart.
I decided to use some cardboard, I had lying around, as the foundation for my heart. This is an easy material to find around the house. You can always use cardboard from food boxes as well!
I started by drawing a heart on the cardboard. It doesn't have to be perfect since you will be adding the coffee filters on top of it.
Here are some hearts I cut out.
Coffee filters are an easy and cheap material for crafting! I used unbleached filters for this project.
I started by folding each filter in half.
I cut each filter in half.
I then folded each half into a fan shape.
For this project, I cut the ends down. I did this so my filters wouldn't stand too high on the heart.
After cutting the filter down, I bent the end over, applied a small amount of hot glue to the end, and glued onto the cardboard heart.
This is what it looked like after I glued them all on. I wasn't happy with how loose it all looked around the edges.
I decided to add a small spot of hot glue to the loose filters, and attach them to other filters near them. This helped tighten up the edges.
I pressed the filters together to help secure the glue
This was what it looked like afterwards. I think it looks much cleaner.
I decided I wanted to hang my heart; so I glued a piece of burlap ribbon to the back.
It may not be your typical Valentine's Day heart; but it's still perfect for the month of love!
