I am super excited to share with you heart lighted decor, these heart decorations are super easy to make. There is something rather fun about farmhouse valentines/heart decorations, plus a moment to pause and celebrate love and friendship.

There are many ways you can use these hearts, you could thread twine through the back and use as a garland.

Lets get started with your light up valentine decorations:-

  • Tree Branches
  • Block of Wood
  • String of internal lights
  • Fabric scraps
  • Stuffing
  • Garden Twine
  • Buttons

Select a suitably sized wood drill piece to drill a hole into the block of wood (acting as your base) fractionally narrower than your individual branch’s.

Drill holes into the base. Whittle the base of each branch so they sit snugly into the base. This needs to be a tight fit so the tree does not wobble over.

Wrap the tree decoration in indoor lights, I start at the far end from the battery pack, ensuring the battery pack fits at the base behind the lighted valentine decoration.

Now we have the foundation of our lighted decoration sorted let’s move on to the fun part – making the valentine fabric hearts.

Fold a piece of card in half and draw half a heart shape. Cut this out, unfold and there you have your template. I have made two templates in slightly different sizes. If you are not confident in drawing hearts you could use a cookie cutter.

For each heart cut out two pieces of fabric – for my farmhouse decor I have cut out hearts.

Cut pieces of twin approx 8″ long, fold in half and tie a knot, thus creating a hanging loop. You will need one per heart.

Encase your hanging loop inside the two pieces of heart fabric.

Now we are going to topstitch around the heart leaving a gap (I suggest along the straight edge) for stuffing.

Set your sewing machine at a slow speed, you may find a hump jig helpful when sewing over the hanging loop (see video).

Stuff your heart, then align the two raw edges, pin and machine stitch to close.

Attach a button at the top of your heart and hang your hearts.
