Now I know we can get w a y more creative than this but I wanted to share a tutorial for all my really wanting to DIY humans who may be a little intimidated and don't know where to start. I am going to show you the power of spray paint and a miniature pumpkin from the Dollar Store. What I love most about these is that you can customize them to any look or color scheme. All you have to do is switch up the colors and patterns and you have yourself custom DIY Halloween decor for cheap that matches your space perfectly.
Check out the full tutorial on my YouTube channel and be sure to subscribe! I post new DIY's every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday - there is sure to be something you love.
First thing you should know is that spray paint is going to be your best friend through my tutorial. Why? Because it's simple, it's quick and allows me to easily make multiple of each design at a time. For this paint splatter pumpkin: gather up your choice of spray paint color and craft paint color, a paint brush, a Dollar Store pumpkin and a place you can fling/spray paint without worry.
These are super easy to separate - which I did so I can paint the stem another color. Black and white is my color scheme for pumpkins this year so I'm sticking with that! But please branch out!
Once your pumpkin is spray painted, I used a skewer to push into the existing hole from the stem. I then held that over a cardboard box.
This allowed me to not get my hands messy or paint the stem when I wasn't meaning to. My video tutorial shows how I did this but I feel like for a more paint splatter effect that is more on the minimal side - you may want to move it away further from the pumpkin to achieve that.
This is what mine looked like at the end!
For this ribbon pumpkin option: gather a Dollar Store pumpkin, ribbon (color and thickness depending on your pumpkin), scissors, spray paint and glue. I am using fabric glue because it has a thinner nozzle. Any time I personally want to work with regular glue or hot glue on a project that requires a thin line - I always end up messing it up.
Once I painted my pumpkin black, I took my fabric glue and lined the grooves of the pumpkin.
I think placed a piece of ribbon on each groove where the glue was.
Instead of putting the original stem back in it (which made it look dinky), I decided to break a branch that was on the floor of my backyard and spray paint it white. I then shoved it in and actually really like the outcome.
For this VERY minimal glitter stemmed pumpkin: gather a Dollar Store pumpkin, spray paint, some time of adhesive, glitter and a paint brush.
I kept with my color scheme and painted the base of the pumpkin white and the stem black. I am using FLAT paint for all of them.
I painted mod podge onto the stem and then doused it with glitter. Don't you worry, I put the excess that was caught in the towel back into my jar.
Now I truly believe that this would be better on a larger pumpkin or if you replaced this stem with a branch like I did in the one previous. I am SO not a glitter person so this amount of glitter in my decor was perfect.
I even did the paint splatter with a black base and LOVED it. I'm excited to finish these DIY Halloween Decor projects and make Halloween throw up all over my house. I mean what is better than a cheap and gorgeous DIY? Don't forget that sharing is caring so let me know what you'd do in the comments down below to inspire a fellow DIY'er!
