Easy Valentine’s Day Craft- Part 2

Today I am sharing the second easy Valentine’s Day craft with step-by-step instructions. At the end of this post there is a short video showing you how to create these hearts. We are going to make some three dimensional hearts that can be hung up using a twine loop at the top. These hearts are fun to hang on some branches in a vase or can be attached to a Valentine’s Day gift.

If you missed the first part of the easy Valentine’s Day craft, you can read about it HERE. In the previous post, I showed you how to make a heart garland with paper hearts “dipped” in glitter.

These Valentine’s Day crafts are easy to make, don’t require much time and require only basic supplies. So with that, let’s jump in.

Step 1: Supplies

Here is a list of supplies you will need:

• Old paper – I used sheet music
• Half-heart template cut out of thin cardboard
• Pen
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Twine

Step 2: Cut Out the Paper Hearts

Using the half heart card board template, cut out 3 hearts from your old paper. Fold the paper in half, trace the outline of your template onto the paper and cut out the heart. Each completed heart will require the use of 3 cut out hearts. So, if you plan to make a number of these hanging hearts, make sure you multiple the number by three to know how many paper hearts you need to cut out. For example, If you want to make 5 hanging hearts, you will need to cut out 15 heart shapes from your old paper.

I took the sheet music and cut it in half and then used each half to make a paper heart. It was easiest if I had all my paper hearts cut out and put into a pile. Once this was done, I moved on to Step 3.

Step 3: Assemble the Hearts

For this next step, you will need your hot glue gun, plugged in and ready for use. To prevent my glue gun from getting hot glue onto my desk, I simply place a piece of aluminum foil underneath it.

You are going to use a paper heart, fold it in half and then apply a little bit of hot glue down the edge of the fold.

Once the hot glue is applied to the centerline of the first heart, you will attach the second heart at the folded edge of its centerline. Now you have 2 hearts glued together along the centerline of each paper heart.

Repeat this same process for the third paper heart. Turn the paper hearts to where the hot glue can be seen. Apply another thin bead of glue and attach the third paper heart along its center line.

Once all three hearts have been glued together along the their centerline, you are ready to move on to the next step.

Step 5: Add the Twine

All that’s needed now is some twine so you can hang the hearts.

Using a very small drop of hot glue at the top of a heart, you can attach some jute twine. I used the tip of my scissors to press the end of the twine into the drop of hot glue. It prevented my fingers from being burned by the hot glue. Flip the heart over to the other side and apply another small drop of hot glue and attach the other end of the jute twine.

When you have completed your heart, it should look similar to the photo above. Simply repeat the steps above to make as many paper hearts as you need.

There are some variations that you could do for this project. You could make hearts in different sizes, paint the paper first before you cut out your hearts or use pink or red ribbon to attach to the hearts rather than twine.

You can use any paper to make these hearts. I used old paper to make these hearts, but then again, this a blog that focuses on vintage and antique items. You can use paper from an old book, dictionary, or pamphlet. Similarly, you could also use scrap book paper or construction paper.
