Floating Friendly Ghost

This is an old-school craft idea that still works as well as ever for inexpensive, fun DIY Halloween decor!

This time of year the Dollar Store has 3 holidays goin' on on the store. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. So, go grab some gauze; AKA creepy cloth, a big plastic Christmas ornament, a bottle of liquid starch and an empty soda bottle (or juice bottle. Whatever you've got).

Take wire or pipe cleaners and run them through poked holes in the empty soda bottle. Twist them around to make hoops on each side for additional support. Hot glue the ornament upside down on your bottle.

Pour the liquid starch into a bucket. Take your gauze and soak it in the bucket until thoroughly covered. Ring it out and place the gauze on top of your soda bottle form. The more layers of gauze the better. For mine, I did 2 or 3 layers of gauze.

Make sure to have your work surface covered (or making the craft outside is even better if possible), as it will drip and puddle the starch as it dries and make a mess. Dry time is fairly quick as long as humidity is low.

Once completely dried, remove the gauze (don't worry - it will detach from the soda form and remain in the ghost shape). I chose to hot glue black felt eyes but this step is optional.

Display your freestanding Floating Friendly Ghost on a shelf, table or mantle. Add some battery operated lights underneath for an even better floating effect!

Hey! I'm always making crap from junk - follow along with me!
