My parents still live in the house i grew up in and rarely discard anything occasionally, oy! Their idea of decluttering is to give everything they no longer want to me. I don't fight it anymore, I keep some for crafts and donate or toss the rest. For this project I repurposed two cutting boards into Halloween decorations.

These are the cutting boards with My parents initials

Artwork by @Jeffkartist

My boyfriend is an incredible artist who happens to love Halloween so I printed images of two of his paintings which I will decoupage onto the cutting boards.

I traced the boards onto the paper so I had an idea of the size I was working with. I then carefully tore around the edges to give it an uneven and more spooky feel.

I did a light wash of color onto the non monogrammed side and cut out felt to cover the monogram on the other. I glued the felt over the monogram

I then applied paint in coordinating colors very heavily at the top then sat the board up so gravity would cause the paint to drip.

Paint and images applied.

After 3 coats of ModPodge

I also applied 2 coats of clear polycrylic spray over the modified for better weather proofing.

I made bows out of ribbon I had and hot glued them to the tops (beneath the holes)

I created a loop out of Jute cord, fed it through and made a handle. I then painted the ropes to coordinate with the decoration.

Here they are all finished. The best part of this is I had everything on hand to create these so there was no outward cost. If I was to purchase everything outright it would've cost at least $10, maybe more especially due to cost of the boards.

You don't have to use cutting boards. Do something simple and fu with items around you already have in your house.

So I can’t tell that you even glued felt on the monogrammed side, but it totally looks like the wood is uneven, did you do that with the felt? I am unclear how to get the look you achieved.. would love to hear from you! 🙂
