My arches have been super popular and fun to do . They take up LOTS of supplies to fill up but when complete, they are so magical to look at and the details in each design can be a conversation starter.
This particular design was Halloween themed and in the home of "Turtle Creek Lane" in Dallas, Tx for her 1st ever open house to benefit a battered woman's shelter.
My arches consist of 8 pieces connected together to form an "arch". It takes alot of muscle and heart, but after a few hours of decorating it, its quite fantastic.
We want to help you DIY, so some of the materials in this post are linked to sellers. Just so you know, Hometalk may collect a small share of sales from the links on this page.
Here is the arch once it is put together. It stands 8ft tall by 8ft wide at the furthest outer part. The walk thru area is 6ft wide. You definately need ladders and some strength to put this together.
After doing many arches, I've quickly learned that adding various mesh fills it up fast. You can add as little or as much as you want, and it's still going to look great. I collaborated with my friend Terri Marshall of Mil and Dil Designs on this arch. We decided that using multiple 21" rolls of Halloween colored mesh weaved all throughout was going to be our best bet. It quickly started to "pop" and take shape
Here you can see how full the arch looks just by adding 21" mesh and various ribbons. We took some fun printed ribbon and weaved all throughout. We also made some whimsical bows along the way.
Once the mesh and ribbon is added, it's pretty much smooth sailing after that. You can add whatever decor you want such as big focal ornaments, signs, dolls, picks and more. I love the hanging rusty chains and the pops of teal. Halloween doesnt have to be traditional colors, but can have pops of other bold colors as well. We used black cloth to cover the stand and a tinsel garland.
So of course I have to take a pic of my latest arch. I just love everything in it and thought the addition of the lighted pumpkin up top was a great touch.
Here's Terri and I at the Tour Decor event at turtle Creek Lane.
