Hidden Messages Valentine

This was a fun and simple Valentine’s Day project. A couple of weeks ago, I spotted this hanging heart in the dollar spot at Target. I wasn’t sure just what I was going to do with it, but for a few dollars, I knew I’d come up with something. Turning it into a Hidden Messages Valentine was easy to do with a few other craft items.
The heart has one side that is canvas and it came with a set of x and o push pins.
The back side of it was chalkboard. I used a chalk pen to write a simple message and added a couple of foam hearts that have adhesive backs.
I bought a package of felt heart stickers and a pack of wooden craft hearts at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft.
I liked how the natural wood of the hearts looks against the canvas, so I opted not to paint them. I added a red heart felt sticker to ten of the wooden hearts.
Since the wood isn’t very thick, it was easy to work the push pins into them. The pack of push pins that came with the canvas heart only had nine. I wanted to use ten hearts, so I used a brass tack for one of the Os.
To create the hidden messages, I used a chalk pen to write words that I think describe my husband.
After arranging the hearts onto the canvas heart, I pushed each one into the canvas. I also switched out the pink ribbon with a red one.
My plan for this is to hang it as part of our Valentine’s Day decor. After dinner, I’ll ask my husband to remove each heart, showing the hidden messages. As he turns each heart over, I’ll be ready with a story of how he has shown that attribute over the last year. I think this will be a fun to go along with a traditional Valentine’s Card for him.
