How to Turn Vintage Portraits Into Fun Halloween Witch Decor
What says Halloween more than a witch!?
I'm going to show you how I used thrifted vintage portraits, a dollar store frame, a little paint, and cardstock to make the cutest little witch decor for Halloween!
I found this frame at a local euro store. It was the perfect size for the photograph I wanted to use. I really liked the pretty vintage style detailing on the frame.
I had this black acrylic paint on hand; which I used to paint the frame.
After a couple coats of paint, this is what the frame looked like.
I found this picture at a thrift store. I love vintage photographs. I thought this cutie would make the perfect little witch.
If you don't feel comfortable using your own family photos, you can always find vintage portraits at thrift or antique stores.
I used basic black cardstock to make a witch hat for the child in the photo.
If you have a paper cutting machine, you can easily make little witch hats, which I have done in the past.
I wanted to share a way to free-hand a hat, for those without a machine.
I simply drew a witch hat onto a section of the cardstock. The fun part is, you can create a hat you like! If you do an internet search of witch hat clip art, you can find various styles to copy.
I then carefully cut the hat out using scissors.
I don't like to ruin vintage photographs, so I always use removable mounting putty to attach the hat. I have had great success using this on walls and photographs. You may want to test a less important photo first before applying it to your vintage photo.
I have only used the Scotch Mounting Putty
I just used a small amount of putty and placed it on the back of the hat.
You may find you need to trim your hat down a little if you find it overlaps the frame.
Simply press the hat onto the photo! That's it!!
Super cute!!!
