Hymnal Easter Rabbit
I think that this sweet rabbit is one of my all-time favorite craft projects.
I love that we used hymnal music on him as that really added a special touch.
Supply List
- One large 6″ egg, I bought mine at Ikea, needs to be paper mache so you can flatten the bottom
- One large plastic egg, about 3″, I purchased this at the dollar tree
- Soft craft wire from the dollar tree
- Masking tape
- Pages from an old hymnal or sheet music, You can buy this on eBay.
- Mod podge
- Two eyes, I used small black buttons
- Ribbon to tie around his neck
- Dark wax for antiquing- I used Annie Sloan’s furniture wax. You can buy wax at Michael’s.
Get some non-candy Easter egg ideas for your egg hunt.
Tape the seam of the giant egg with masking tape all the way around.
( This egg is made out of cardboard) then push the bottom edge of the egg down onto a table hard to create a flat spot on the bottom of the egg. This way, the egg will sit flat.
Masking tape the small egg seam as well.
Turn the small egg onto its side and hot glue it on top of the large egg.
Then take the blue tape and wrap it around both eggs so that the small egg ( the head) is on the body securely.
Using the soft wire from the Dollar Tree, shape it into two ears and two arms with tabs on both sides ( just like the image)
You will use the tabs to tape the ears and arms to the rabbit's body.
Tape the ears onto the head of the rabbit. And two arms onto the sides of his body.
Cut your sheet music into strips that are about 3″ long x 1/2 wide.
Using the Mod Podge, paint some on the rabbit and then place the strips onto the rabbit and paint over the strips.
I did the front and back of the body first, then the sides.
To do the arms and ears, paint the Mod Podge onto the music paper and wrap the pieces around the wire until it is totally covered.
Continue this process until the entire rabbit is covered.
You may want to use two layers if you can see any color through the paper.
I used Annie Sloan's clear dark wax to put an antiqued finish on my rabbit. Mix about one tablespoon of clear wax to 1/4 dark wax and apply with a soft cloth. Let this dry for 24 hours.
Hot glue on the eyes and the tie a bow around his neck.
