I❤️U Valentines Decor (Silhouette Cameo Project)
Oh how I love Valentine’s Day! So, when I decided to make use of some wood scraps I had, it was super easy to decide on the theme.
You can use any colors you want, but I decided to go with classic valentines colors.
The first thing I did was create a file on my Silhouette Cameo machine. I wanted the wood to be 7.25x14 inches so I made my cut file the same. I then chose an alphabet font that was pretty generic and typed the alphabet out in the above manner. I also replaced the “O” with a heart. I added an additional I❤️U at the bottom (you’ll see why in a second). I spaced the letters out so they looked pleasing to the eye and then I cut the vinyl.
I cut the additional I❤️U off the bottom and set it aside for later. I then peeled up the background vinyl off the alphabet and added contact paper.
I then cut a piece of wood from a 2x8. The piece measures 7.25x14 inches. I made sure to sand off the rough edges and then I stained it my favorite stain color. (I used “special walnut”.) I then let the board dry completely.
Once the stained wood was dry, I positioned the vinyl onto the wood and peeled up the contact paper. I then rubbed down the vinyl letters to make sure they were securely stuck to the wood. I added painters tape around the edge for a clean finished look.
Using acrylic white paint, I covered the entire surface, making sure to only paint on a thin layer to avoid paint bleeding under the vinyl. Once it was completely painted and dry, I used tweezers to remove the letters.
I then removed the letters and heart from the extra “I❤️U”, leaving only the outline. Then I applied contact paper.
After I peeled the back off the vinyl, I was able to place the outlines directly around the letters on the board. I then removed the contact paper and painted the I❤️U pink and red. After the paint was completely dry, I removed the vinyl.
This is the finished product! It was pretty simple and a great addition to my ❤️-day decor!
