This arrangement is meant to be used for the 4th of July (Independence Day in the United States) and uses silver twigs to echo the idea of fireworks to make it fun. You could definitely use this for Memorial Day, or another patriotic US holiday.

Tip: buy faux flowers on sale. Most craft stores run a sale every month on their silks and if you need it during a time it’s not on sale, they normally have coupons too. Try to upcycle old containers as well. You can spray paint them to change them up, which helps them stay looking fresh.

Spray paint your twigs silver if you did not purchase silver twigs.

Clean your container (if it is not new).

Cut the floral foam to fit your container. You want the foam to stick out the top edge a couple of inches so you have room to put the stems down in it so they are anchored well. Hot glue the floral foam into the container. Trim any excess floral foam.

Place the moss on top of the floral foam. Using either floral pins or cut small pieces of floral wire and bend to make a “U” shape, push down into the moss in a few places insert in place.

Place, and secure, any greenery you have to create your base first.

Next choose the largest and most bold flowers you have and select an odd number (3, 5, 7, etc). Place largest flower close to the rim of the container to create a focal point there and then place your other of the same flower spaced out around the arrangement. You can make this a one-sided design, or all the way around. If you need a 360 degree arrangement make certain to turn your arrangement as you add flowers. It will make for a more balanced look.

If you have a large bundle type of flower like the white hydrangeas cut them down to individual flowers. Any large bush of flowers will look better cut down. If it needs support, wind a floral pick around it before inserting into the foam.

Keep on adding each flower type you have, placing largest ones down in more than out, and just use a few on the outer, taller spots. The filler flower and your twigs will be your main outer flowers.

Make a bow if you are adding one (and have not purchased premade). Use your thumb and pointer finger to pinch the ribbon and hold into place as you make the loops. Once you have it the size you like, run a wire through the center and bend around, twisting it to secure it tightly. Then, add it to a floral pick to put into foam in your design. It is best if the bow is not the focus, deep-set it.

You can dove tail the ends of the ribbon if you like by folding the ribbon in half at the end, longways, and then cutting a “V” in it. This adds a nice touch.

Now add the twigs. Insert them in odd numbers (3 works well) the same area by wrapping the twigs together using foral tape.

You do not need to hot glue your floral into place, but if you would like it to be secure, do so. And, if when you finish your floral arrangement, while checking for loose floral, hot glue anything that is loose in place. Simply dab a bit of glue at the end of your floral stem, insert into the floral foam, hold for 10-15 seconds, and you are set.

Display as desired.
