One of my favorite things about parenting is that sometimes I get to act like a kid again. My daughter, Chloe is four and I love this age because she still believes in Santa Claus, magic and fairy tales.
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up and we’ve been doing some reading about leprechauns and Irish folklore. Chloe has been very interested in leprechauns in particular so I suggested we set up a leprechaun trap in hopes of catching one.
I used some supplies from my craft stash and everything else was purchased from the dollar store or the craft store.
I explained to Chloe that leprechauns like gold and a pot of gold can be found at the end of a rainbow. We made our own pot of gold and rainbow to attract a leprechaun and rigged it so when the leprechaun tried to steal the gold he would knock down the branches holding up the hat and it would fall down and trap him.
We set out some fake leaves and succulents and laid out a rainbow scarf for the "rainbow leading up to the pot of gold". I added a small black pot and filled it with gold coins from the dollar store.
We propped up a hat with some twigs. When the leprechaun comes to take the gold he will knock over the sticks and the hat will fall and trap him.
A note saying "free gold" was displayed to help entice the leprechaun as well as trail of gold coins placed on the scarf to lure the leprechaun.
We left the trap up overnight and in the morning the gold was gone. In it's place was a note from our leprechaun friend.
