Love Halloween??? Here Are Some Fun DIY Yard Decorations We Did.

These are pictures of our yard. We made some metal stands to hold up the dead trees, also stakes into the ground to keep from tipping over. The birds were Dove decoys I got on clearance, then spray painted black and added red jewel eyes. They had clips on the bottom which made it easy to clip to the branches, headstones, fence and ghouls hands. I added a fogger to make it look eerie (also had a fogger just inside the door and activated it when I opened the door - loads of fog spilled out). I bought the fencing at the $$ store and put it on pvc posts to make it higher off the ground.
And darkness makes it better....:)
Some of the headstones were cut from logs. I used a wood burner to engrave the names of the deceased on them. The other ones are plastic blow molds. I used vinyl to print out the “VACANCY” and put a flashing bulb in it. The wood caskets were built out of rough-cut lumber. They get better every year.
The tall ghost floats in the wind.....made from pvc pipe and fabric from some curtains I no longer use. Pretty simple to make and finish off with a skeleton head on top. (Sorry for the blurry picture - but dark and wind was blowing)
Life size witch has a jointed body to help her sway in the breeze. She hangs from the eves of our roof. I had strobe lights in the windows with shadow figures so each window flashed eerie scenes.
These ghouls are so easy to make....and their light frame lets them sway in a gentle breeze. Just made a body form out of ½" pvc pipe and don’t forget the arms.....LOL Add a styrofoam head and mask, any long dark costume (buy on clearance to use next year) and gloves for the hands. Super easy to make and store. I put a “T” out of pvc pipe on the bottom of each frame to stake into the ground to secure them.
One of the best decorations is Freddy Reddy....he is ready to grab you when you walk by. I took the turntable from an old record player. Built a simple upper torso out of 2 X 4 lumber and mounted the turntable box on the top. I glued a styrofoam head on the turntable and topped with a mask. Dress him in an old shirt, making sure to glue the collar away from the turntable so it spins freely. Put him on low speed and his head rotates around....watching your every move. Stuff old jeans for the lower body and sit him on your porch....gave him a “peg” leg for good measure....so if you run, he can’t catch you.
Check out his creepy face and eyes.
Made the gallows out of aspen poles, placed in metal stands (the two side pols are "Y" so they hold the top post. Holds two guys who are motion activated that sing and dance when kids walk by.
Happy Halloween!!!
