My late husband and I used to sit on this bench which was once in our backyard under a tree.

When I renovated our home eleven years ago, it was moved next to the garage and has been sitting there rotting away in a sad state. Because the bench is sentimental, I decided I would give it a fresh look and decorate it in a red, white and blue theme in honor of my husband who was very patriotic. (We were married on June 14th, Flag Day!)

Time for a makeover, sad little bench.
Painting the metal parts navy blue.

I decided to spray paint the metal parts navy blue before disassembling. That way, I could spray from all angles without the need to flip and dry.

Painting new boards

Because the old boards were completely shot, I cut new ones and painted them with red and white paint.

Replacing the seat

After everything was completely dry, I replaced the seat and alternated the boards to mimic the stripes on our flag.

Back support

I decided to keep the back support area all red but this idea can be adapted to your liking.

Proudly displayed on our porch

Once in disrepair, this bench proudly sits on our front porch. I added blue led rope lights which glow at night.
