This large wood USA map is a great piece for door decor or to hang on your wall. I made this piece to enter DecoArt’s 1st Annual Paintriotic Contest. The USA wood shape is from Walnut Hollow, and all the paints are by DecoArt.

Base coat the entire map with white paint. I used DecoArt’s Satin Enamels paint in a color called Pure White. This paint offers really nice coverage, and I only needed two applications to achieve a solid white background. Since this is a rough cut pallet I had to work the paint into some of the more jagged edges with a smaller brush.

After the white paint dried, I used painter’s tape to make the stripes on the flag. To make the spaces even, use a small piece of the tape to make sure you space the stripes equally.

I used DecoArt’s Americana Satins in True Blue to paint over the stars in the top left rectangle. I used Americana paint in True Red to paint over the stripes. This is what it looked like while I let it dry. I waited for the paint to dry before removing the tape and vinyl.

This patriotic door decor is perfect for Fourth of July and other US holidays. Click to read my full tutorial to get all my best painting tips. This wood decor would look great paired with my flag inspired wreath.
