Focus on your front door and put a spotlight on it. Impressive, simple and inexpensive.

Dollar Tree has so many items.

Use small white bags to make ghosts you can hang from trees. You can ball up newspaper to stuff in the top for the head then put a bread tie or rubber band to finish the head. You can draw eyes and mouth with sharpie or use black stickers cut in circles & ovals.

Make a scarecrow out of a pair of coveralls or overalls stuffed with newspaper or leaves. Put a hat pulled down over the "face".

Here's a bunch of Hometalk projects to look over as well:

Cut pieces of plastic or thin cardboard are flimsy to attach, and often do not stay in place or hold up in outdoor weather conditions, especially rain or wind. If you are going to put the time in to diy Halloween decorations, my advise is to make them sturdy enough to be used again in other years.
