Buy a runner and use some old candlesticks, pumpkins, gourds, and fake leaves.

I use a woven horn of plenty. They come in several sizes. Set it on a board or platter. Then I have fruit & vegetables pouring from it & stick a few pieces of ivy among the fruit.
Anything with fall colors will do. Just make sure it's not too high so people can see over it.
Some appropriate colored candles with a few small gourds or mini pumpkins is one way. One time our children made center pieces out of apples, toothpicks, and gum drops into turkeys. We graced the center with all 3 "turkeys" and it made the children feel good. Use candles but put a mini wreath around each one. You can get mini wreaths that will barely fit around a candle and add fall mini decor to each wreath. Cinnamon scented candles might be nice. A medium clear vase filled with candy corn and a small wreath at the base. I hope these ideas will inspire you to do something now with what you have.
Thanks to you all! I can combine your ideas and have a nice centerpiece for this Thanksgiving dinner
Thanksgiving is the easiest centerpiece to make I've found and I'm terrible at them, well I think I am but have been told I'm good. Start with a placemat or table runner then add a basket or pumpkin or a floral arrangement as the center starting point. Then layer around it with anything fall! Here's a simple one I put together that allows for space on the table. I've done some that cover the entire table too which is not practical if we are eating at the table But fun to set up!
I meant to say pine cones too. Just an idea, most people can get their hands on pine cones from city parks etc or buy at walmart for $3
yep! And you can make it as wide or as narrow as you want!
Here's a post I wrote a few years back when I first started blogging... step-by-step on creating this Christmas Centerpiece. I still love how pretty it turned out, and have used and reused the logs many times! http://simpledecoratingtips.com/2011/12/23/all-ready-for-christmas-dinner/
