Need a few sugar skull decorations for Halloween or to celebrate the Day of the dead? I used a placemat from Big Lots and a ladder wreath form. Here is how I made one of the sugar skull grooms. Bride included later.
Placemat is $2 from Big Lots. They have black and silver glitter right now. Hobby Lobby has ornaments out in peacock theme. They all were 40% off so I purchased them and tulle and feathers and gems. Total haul was $65 but I also made a bride with the materials. She is on my YouTube channel as well.
The hat was an old patriot red white and blue hat from the holiday and I removed the decor and weaved loofahs sponges material on the hat.
Weave pattern.
The placemat I added metallic and green glitter paper behind the skull then decorate the front with gems. I modge podge the face twice. This face is a two day project to adhere the gems for a long time and place the wreath indoors or outdoors.
I finished the hat. All materials from hobby lobby and dollar tree flowers and wreath form.
To assemble I sewed on the skull and tied on the hat to the ladder form wreath. The bottom, I had a square exposed and I wrapped with metallic gold to look like he had a neck then sewed tulle and decorate his necktie.
I made him a boutonniere
Assembled it all on the last square and sewed it and glued it. If this piece does go outdoors, sewing would keep the pieces on much longer. Hotglue and outdoor October weather is a hit and miss. Modge podge the face once again, in the end.
His bride I made her with gold shoulders and a low cut dress. Mix and matching the materials between them. Mr & Mrs. Peacock!
