I am having a love affair with Gold Leaf.

So it got me thinking...what can I Gold Leaf? Answer...PUMPKINS!!

We want to help you DIY, so some of the materials in this post are linked to sellers. Just so you know, Hometalk may collect a small share of sales from the links on this page.
You can literally gold leaf anything!
I picked up these rather cheap looking, and rather cheap in reality, gourds (Amazon) from the Dollar Store - $3 each and a nice size. You can find similar on Amazon.
Lightly Sand
I lightly sanded - if your pumpkin is really shiny - you will need to sand. If it has a coating you will need to clean with a detergent.
Fort Your Red - so pretty!
Next, I painted with 2 coats of Fort York Red from Fusion Mineral Paint (Amazon) . Using red gives the gold leaf a real authenticity!
How cute is my helper?
Once the paint was dry, I took some Martha Stewart Gilding Adhesive (Amazon)and applied a thin coat right over the paint.

You must wait until the glue goes clear and is tacky to the touch before you apply your leaf!
Gold Leaf Sheets
I bought my Gold Leaf  (Amazon) from Michaels, but you can get it on Amazon too.
Apply the Leaf
To apply the Gold leaf you simply drop it onto the glue. Then brush with a soft bristle brush - you can be pretty heavy handed. Check out the blog for a How To Video!
I then added some Black Wax (Amazon) from Homestead House. It really adds authenticity and a sense of age.
Apply with a soft cloth.
Finally sit back and admire!
Just so cute!
So pretty. And you can stack them up!
Keep adding to the collection - use different colours of leaf - copper or silver - and create a stack! What would you Gold Leaf for your house? You can get the full low down by watching my Hometalk Live Video or see the extra steps on my blog!
