This project was so much fun to make! I love anything Patriotic/Americana, and what is more Patriotic than Uncle Sam?! I had some wood laying around from other projects, so I thought I would put together a Uncle Sam Porch Sitter. He turned out AMAZING!

Using a board I had on hand and a few little triangle cut outs I had from another project and a small slat from Hobby Lobby for his brim. I laid it all out how I wanted him to look with just the wood. I grabbed a pencil, and some acrylic paints and dark walnut stain a star stencil and got to work.

Acrylic Paint Colors : Antique White, Burgundy, Midnight Blue, Flesh, Black

Next I used a pencil and drew out where I wanted his beard an his face to be. As you can see I was a little off on my judgment haha! It’s ok though, that is why I did it on pencil!

I painted the hat with white and burgundy stripes, I didn’t measure, I used a wide brush and made the lines the size of my largest brush. Then I painted around his face in the flesh color, and his eyes black. Antique white for his beard, then the bottom in the midnight blue. Once the blue was dry I added stars using the antique white and a stencil.

The final step was I took him outside and gave him a coat of Minwax dark walnut stain (my favorite stain color!) all over, using a rag and wiped off all the excess. It gave him a primitive look which is exactly what I was going for. He looks very aged and vintage!

You can find the stain here.

Here he is next to my antique chair, he fits so perfectly there! I absolutely LOVE how he turned out! I hope you enjoyed this Uncle Sam Porch Sitter DIY!
