Turn a simple 2x4 into the perfect, festive holiday card holder for less than $10.

Completed Card Holder

First, choose the wood you would like to use and cut to length. For this project, I chose to use scrap wood we had lying around and cut it to 30".

Use table saw to cut 1" strip from each side of the 2x4 (removing the rounded edges) and leaving a 1.5" strip.

Use table saw set at 1/2" depth to cut slit down the middle of the piece of wood. Make sure table saw is adjusted to not cut all the way through wood.

Begin sanding with 120 - 180 grit sand paper and then finish it with 220 grit sandpaper to ensure smooth finish for painting.

Use Rust-oluem Metallic Gold Sray Paint to finish the piece and allow to dry.

The finished piece

This design is very simple and modern to fit my best friend's decor. You could use a router to round the edges or create a more detail design which would also look great.
