I have always appreciated receiving handmade gifts, to me they are more meaningful. Our mom loves tea and growing up we used to do always have tea parties. This year we surprised her and threw our Mother’s Day celebration a few weeks early with a Mother Daughter Tea and these DIY homemade tea bags. She loved them and they looked really cute on the table too!

You will need:

  • Coffee filters
  • Loose leaf tea
  • Twine
  • Cardstock or printed photos
  • Stapler

Directions:

1.) I started by printing out some of my favorite photos that I wanted to use for the tea bags and cutting them into small squares for the tags. If you’re not going to use pictures, you could also do cardstock and write little personalized messages on them.

2.) Take a coffee filter and scoop 1 1/2 teaspoon of loose leaf tea into the center of the coffee filter.

3.) Bring the edges of the coffee filter up to make it into like a blossom and pinch the center to close it off.

4.) Take a piece of twine and wrap around the part of the coffee filter that you have pinched off and tie closed leaving enough of the twine coming off the tea bag for steeping.

5.) Using a stapler, staple your picture or cardstock to the end of the twine.

We chose to have them all set out on the table. I think they would also be cute made into a basket with a tea canister, a tea cup, some biscotti and maybe some macaroons.
