Giving away cards is a wonderful thing. Even better, when they are handmade!

Why handmade? As this shoes the recipient that you really cared!

Now, not everyone is a crafter at heart and knows how to DIY a card. And that's ok! That's why I'm here: I created this easy tutorial for a mixed-media Mother's Day card, that ANYONE can do!

And really, the card will work for any other occasion, too.

As I don't want this post to be too long for you to read, I'll be keeping it nice & short, yet understandable. I'll even add a short video on how to crochet a heart.

I know some of you might prefer a more detailed tutorial, and I've got you covered ;-)

Simply head over to Craftify My Love to learn how to make this card step-by-step.
I called this card a mixed-media card for a reason. You'll be honing your skills in paper crafts and in crocheting. But it's going to be easy. Promise.

You can use any kind of paper for this project. The thicker the paper, the sturdier the card.

I once bought a paper pad of all sorts. It contains various patterns and two thicknesses of the paper. There was a matching smaller pad I grabbed, too.

Use whatever you have at home if you want to make this a frugal card. Or shop for a wonderful scrapbook paper and cardstock.
You'll be using one paper as the base of the card. Cut it to size and fold it in half.

With a matching piece of paper (pattern wise) you'll be decorating the front. Simply cut a piece, that is slightly smaller than your card and glue it on top.

You might want to try and stick the decorative paper exactly in the middle of your card so that there is an even frame around it.

Tip: Paying attention to these details will make your card look totally pro!!!
Now it's time to test your crocheting skills!

You can literally use any yarn and any hook that matches the size of your yarn. A thicker yarn will make a bigger heart, and a thinner yarn a more delicate one.

Extra points if you choose a color that matches your paper, lol.

The video is not in slo-mo but, if you need to stop or replay parts of it, you can totally do this!

This was my first crocheting video, so I'd sure love to get some feedback on it. Do you need more close-ups? Repetitions? I kept it short & simple and to the point, as I can't stand extra loooooong videos that keep me waiting. But maybe your tastes are different?
Once you finished your crocheted heart, you'll glue it to your card. I used a sticky dot. But you can also use other adhesives.

What do you say? Do you like this card? And even more important: Will you make your Mom a handmade Mother's Day card this year?
Oh and, before I forget! You might want to make a matching envelope, too, right?

Especially if you went freestyle with the format of your card. I can teach you how to DIY your very own Envelope in whatever size you want. All you need is enough paper and the measurements of your card.
