Budget Friendly Ornament Nativity

I love to display nativities at Christmas because it reminds us of God's love! I blog at DIY Beautify, where I love to share inexpensive tutorials and decor for your home! I have hundreds of free tutorials for every season and more because I'm a creator. It's what I do and love to share!

This ornament nativity is made on a deconstructed canvas. I took a simple, inexpensive canvas and deconstructed it, then put it back together with the ornaments.

Let me show you how easy it was!

Note: You can use any size canvas for this project, a small canvas will require smaller ornaments!

The first thing is to deconstruct my 9x12" canvas. Flip it over and slice around the staples to separate the canvas from the frame.

Did you know there's a cute farmhouse frame hiding beneath a canvas?

Flip the frame back over and remove the staple you'll find in each corner. Don't worry, it won't fall apart on you!

Next, stain the front of the frame. Or do what I do, which is far simpler and faster..."stain" the frame using dark furniture paste! It dries fast and you're ready to move on with the rest of the project!

Grab the canvas you removed, and slice it down so it's a little bit smaller than the frame.

You'll notice that the backside of the canvas is a really nice, nubby material. It's canvas after all! That's the side we're going to use.

Staple or hot glue the canvas to the backside of the frame, with the canvas side facing up.

Next, I used my (affiliate) Silhouette machine to cut out the nativity shapes onto gold glittered vinyl.

I carefully applied each shape to a 2-1/2" clear ornament.

Note: if you don't own a die cut machine, you can use stickers!

I also spray painted my ornament tops gold so they'd match the glittered ornaments.

To assemble my nativity, I simply hot glued each ornament into place on the canvas. I have 4 rows: 1-star, 2-angels, 3- Joseph, baby Jesus and Mary and 4-shepherd, sheep, king, camel

I also hot glued a small bow to the top.

It looks beautiful on my mantel with the gold frames and greenery!
