Buffalo Check Christmas Ornaments

Turn Dollar Store ornaments or old worn glass ball ornaments into these trendy Buffalo Check Christmas ornaments!
We started by spray painting colored ornaments white. The buffalo check ribbon we used to make these ornaments is rather sheer. Tthe white paint works well as a base for these ornaments.
I purchased buffalo check ribbon at Hobby Lobby when it was on sale. I used the ribbon for our Ribbon Christmas Trees and had some ribbon left over. I decided to use the white and black ribbon for our ornaments.
I cut the ribbon into strips. Each strip was long enough to cover the 1/2 the ornament from top to bottom.
Remove the ornament hanging cap. Use hot melt glue to attach the ribbon strips to the ornament ball. I used a bamboo skewer to keep from burning my fingers on the hot melt glue. Strips were added until the entire ornament was covered. Overlap the strips so that the center area of each strip slightly overlaps the previously attached ribbon. The top and bottom of the ribbon will overlap more because of the shape of the ornament. Work you way around until the entire ornament ball is covered with ribbon.
Tip: Use the bamboo skewer to roll the hot melt glue flat as you attach the ribbon. We only use a small amount of glue at the top and bottom of each strip.
Ribbon frays easily. To solve this problem, we coated each ornament with a coat of Mod Podge after all the ribbon strips were attached. I did try using only the Mod Podge to attach the ribbon strips, but it was time consuming. It was much faster to attach the strips with the hot melt glue.
Allow Mod Podge to dry fully. Reattach the ornament hanging caps. Display in a bowl, hang on your tree, or use for wreaths or any other Holiday decor!
