Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments

2 Materials
3 Hours

How sweet are these adorable little stars? They are perfect for decorating the tree, stringing on a garland, or can even be used as tags to embellish gifts. I love being resourceful when it comes to decorating and using materials that I already have on hand or can create myself. The recipe for this “dough” only calls for two simple ingredients! Although it does take some time to bake in the oven it’s completely worth it because it will make your home smell heavenly.

Make the dough

To make the dough simply mix together 1 cup of applesauce and 1 1/4 cup of ground cinnamon. I like to just use a fork and stir it well until a nice dough ball is formed. You can then roll the dough out on the counter top and use any shape cookie cutter you like to make your ornaments. I was able to make 30 ornaments using this recipe. Be sure to make a hole at the top (using a skewer) for hanging.

I like to use a parchment lined baking sheet to prevent any sticking and also to make cleanup easier. The ornaments do not need to be spaced far apart as they do not expand. Bake in the oven at 200 for 2-3 hours. You want to check them after 2 hours and then again every 15 minutes. The ornaments should be completely dried out and rock hard. It might be helpful to flip them for the last 10 minutes if there is any moisture left.

Once the ornaments are done and completely cooled string them on some ribbon or twine and decorate away!

These little ornaments add such a charming quality to any decor and I love how cozy and festive they make my home smell.
