Ornaments From Formica Swatches
Digging through my Treasure Stash I came across some old Formica Swatches.Big ones and little ones. I knew there had to be something Christmasy I could make with with wonders!
There sturdy backing would be good for:
Christmas Tags, Gifts Toppers, Remembrance Gifts, Ornaments
I decided to cover the swatches with paper. I brushed a coat of Mod Podge on the Formica Swatch.....
I then placed my chosen paper on, carefully smoothing as I went, as not to get any wrinkles or tears.
I let it dry thoroughly, then trimmed the background paper to fit the swatch exactly.
Next I gathered any and all supplies I thought I could use:
images, trims, ribbons, papers, lace, beads, gems, and more.
I copied some images I had, printed them, then cut them out using an Exacto blade.
I used Mod Podge to adhere the images to the background paper.
Then started embellishing away!
The one on the left was framed with two strands of pearls and clear shiny gems here and there among the vintage image of Father Christmas.
The one on the right received vintage lace, a strand of pearls and trim for it's border. A vintage image of Santa was placed in the center with Holly in the bottom corner. Embellished with clear gems and super fine silver glitter.
I was able to use an awl to make a hole on each side of the swatches in order to add coordinating ribbon for hanging.
A few of the smaller ones I used vintage images of women in their Christmas Dressings.
A couple only have coordinating trim along the bottom.
I love how they all turned out!
Your imagination is the only limit!
This was a fun and easy project for a stormy afternoon without electricity!
