Do you want to build a snowman - ornament?!? Recently, I was shopping for new ornaments and I ended up getting a bunch from Big Lots. They have the sweetest designs. Once I got home I wondered if I could make some additional ornaments that were inspired by the ornaments that I purchased. And so it begins... icon Another Hometalk tutorial is created. Wouldn’t this be a fun activity for a “Do you want to build a snowman party? 🎉 Word to the wise have the ornaments painted ahead of time!
Here are the super adorable snowmen that I bought. Full disclosure here, you can probably buy these cheaper than you can make them. icon But where is the fun in that!
So I bought a clear plastic ornament from Michaels and 2 packages of polymer clay. I bought orange and black. Carrot 🥕 noses and black for the coal for the eyes and mouth.
If you can buy the ornament white or start with an old white ornament, I highly recommend going that route. I made a terrible mess and consider the video a blooper. It is really pretty funny and I might post it yet. Y'all might need a good laugh at me getting white paint every where - twice!
After I swirled the paint around the entire inside. I tipped it upside down on part of a paper towel tube to dry.
While the paint dried, I baked my clay at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.
I attached the carrot nose with my hot glue gun.
Eyes and coal mouth the same way.
I added a ribbon and holiday cording and I think it is super sweet. I showed my husband and he said, “Huh, is that what you meant to do?” 😂 YES! “Oh, ok, it looks good then.”
I love it. Wouldn’t it make a cute package topper? And it’s plastic so it won’t break!
This may be my favorite thing that I have made so far this holiday season.
I am thinking the ones from Big Lots are boys and this one looks like a girl so they will be sweet together. I need to make some more. It is hard to estimate the cost for one because you use such a very tiny bit of clay. My total cost for all three items at Michaels was Less than $4. The ornament was on sale for $.39 and the Sculpty was $2.50 apiece and then the coupons brought the total to $3.69. So, if I want to make more, I only need to buy the ornaments. icon
Here are more ornaments that I bought. Just FYI if you don’t want to diy they are on sale!
Here my painting the inside goes wrong. I am using an old bottle of paint and it is a tad clogged at times. The beeping in the background is the timer letting me know the polymer clay is done and my hands are coved in white paint. Anxiety level = HIGH icon White paint on my butcher block 😳
Unicorn ornament....🦄

I love bloopers too! Thank you! I’ll have to post more and let the world see that things do not always go as planned. 😉
