I love finding things at my local thrift store to upcycle into Christmas decorations. Last year I found an old bell ornament that wasn't quite my style so I turned it into a farmhouse style Christmas ornament. Have all my thrift store makeovers sent straight to your inbox by signing up on my email list.
This simple farmhouse style Christmas ornament only needs a few supplies:
  • old Christmas bell ornament (I also bought some big bells in the Kmart clearance section last year after Christmas!)
  • jute, sisal, or even string
  • scissors
  • glue gun with hot glue sticks
  • finger guards also come in handy!
What did I do before I had those finger guards?  Oh, yeah… I burned my fingers a lot!  They help soooooo much when you get the string started at the top of the ornament.
Start with a dot of glue at the top.  Wind the string around and around, adding dots of glue 1-3 times every time you wind the string around.
Start and end with more glue to hold the first and last rows tight. Done!  Now to trim off some of the wild sisal fibers!
This fits my country or farmhouse Christmas tree theme much better.  I also found some larger plastic Christmas bell decorations for sale at K-mart last year after the holidays.  I used thicker jute string to do those.
