DIY Pretzel Display for Only $15!
Kyle turned 30 this month and we were having an Oktoberfest themed birthday party for him. Since we were having soft pretzels, I wanted to have a cute display for them. After doing some research and realizing those display boards can cost over $100, I knew I could make it cheaper myself. I was shocked when I pulled it off for &15.
What I used:
MDF
1/2” dowel
1x3
1 in hinge
liquid nails
Step 1: Cut MDF to size
I bought a 2x4 ft sheet of MDF, and cut it down to size. I made my board a little smaller than 2x2, but you can adjust this depending on how many pretzels you want to display.
Step 2: Cut dowels
Next I cut my 1/2” wooden dowel into 9 smaller pieces, each about 2 inches long, then I sanded them down.
Step 3: Drill holes and add backer board
I marked my 9 holes in the MDF, all evenly spaced, then used a 1/2” drill bit to drill the holes all the way through. After this, I cut another piece of MDF, the same size as the first one, and glued it to the back of the board. This helped cover the holes and give a cleaner look to the back, and helped thicken the surface for when I attached the kickstand.
Step 4: Glue in dowels
Next I used liquid nails in each hole, and added the pegs in.
Step 5: Spray paint
Once the glue dried, I used white spray paint and sprayed the entire board.
Step 6. Add kickstand
Next I took a scrap piece of 1x3 and attached it to the back of the board using a 1 inch hinge. This served as a kickstand for the board and was how it stood up on its own.
Step 7: Add a fun saying
I used my Cricut to add a fun birthday pretzel pun, but you can paint something on, or use sticker letters from a craft store. I used removable vinyl so we can take off the stickers and reuse the board after the party.
This came out so much cuter than I expected and it only cost $15!!! We plan to reuse this for donuts for my nieces birthday party in a few months!
