I decided to make these easy diy cheese markers because I really didn’t want to buy any.

I wanted something that I could use once and be done. Not buy something that takes up space in my kitchen drawers. Especially since I don’t need/use cheese markers that often.

But I was having a wine and cheese pairing party and needed cheese markers.

So I rummaged my craft stash, and my kitchen, and came up with these amazingly simple and cute diy markers for cheese.

They turned out even better than I imagined!

Supplies for EASY DIY Cheese Markers

  • Round toothpicks
  • Cardstock
  • Ruler
  • Tiny hole punch
  • Floral wire
  • Scissors & Pen

How to Make Cheese Marker Tags

Step 1: Cardstock for cheese marker tags

Select a thicker cardstock for your diy cheese markers. You will want to write on both sides and not have the ink show on the other side.

Measure and cut your cardstock into 4-inch by 3/4-inch strips.

I have a Fiskers portable trimmer that I love for this kind of project. I don’t need to measure and mark where to cut. Just use the guides and slide the cutter.

It’s a total time saver! If you don’t have one – ya gotta check it out!

Cut as many strips as different cheeses you will be serving.

Step 2: Holes for floral wire

Fold each of your strips in half, so they’re now 2-inches by 3/4-inch.

About a 1/4-inch from the fold, mark where you will punch holes thru the cardstock. *Note: You want to make sure that the marks are far enough from the fold, that the toothpick won’t block them.

The number of holes and the distance between the holes are dependent on the size of your hole punch.

I have a tiny hole punch in my craft stash that was perfect and has come in handy for SO many projects.

After you have marked your cardstock, use your hole punch to create the holes.

Step 3: Attaching the cheese tag to a toothpick

To attach your cheese tag to the toothpick, measure and cut a 4-inch piece of your floral wire.

First, take your cardstock strip and lay a toothpick inside, against the fold.

In the picture above you can see how the holes are on the opposite side of the toothpick.

Next, slip about 1/3-inch of the wire thru the top hole and press it down along the other holes.

Now take the long end of the wire and thread it around the fold and thru the second hole.

Continue to loop and thread the wire thru the rest of the holes.

At the bottom of the cardstock cheese flag, wind the remaining floral wire. This will prevent the marker from sliding down.

To finish off the look of the diy cheese marker, cut the open end of the tag at an angle.

Step 4: Using your diy cheese markers

Now to use your easy diy cheese markers!

Just take your pen and write the type of cheese you will be serving on both sides of the cheese marker label, and stick the toothpick into the cheese.

Did you realize making cheese markers was so simple?
