How do I make an outdoor cat bed for my patio?

I would like to place it directly outside of the sliding glass door under my metal sitting bench. It would need to lay on a riser so it doesn't get wet on the bottom and am thinking of placing a piece of clear plastic on top of the bench then cover with a tarp to keep the rain out from the top and sides of the box

I'm thinking of the plastic trays that stores have for soda bottles. You could use one of those for the riser. It will get it off the ground without making it too high for the cat. You could do a square/rectangular frame with a tarp or a tent style for a cover.
