ObiaMan on Sep 17, 2016This really is a simple job. If you have a decent lip on the coffee table, that would be perfect. Just cut out a piece of foam to fit the top exactly. Many different types and quality can be used. Cut out a piece of material that would be appropriate plenty big enough to fit over, around and under the lip, with a little extra if possible to pull on. Lay the material on top and fold one side under the lip and staple it. Pull the other side over as tight as you'd like it to be and staple that side. Just put a few staples on each side around the center. After doing the 4 sides, do each corner, then finish off the sides up to the corners, folding the material over nicely and stapling. Once it's all stapled in place and looks right, trim off any excess under the lip. Or you could do the same thing using a piece of plywood the exact size and shape of the top. Lay your material down, then put the foam on top, then the plywood and pull the material up over the plywood and staple. Then you could lightly or heavily glue it to the top of the table. You could even use carpet. Something that thick might require making a few slits around the corners where it doesn't actually overlap, but fits together. Cut long triangle slits and it can all be perfectly flat. Instead of staples, you could also use an appropriate glue. If you're gluing it directly to the table, a contact cement could be your best choice.Helpful Reply
