may be easier to purchase a ready made one and use the template ... we have several DD's ... one to the outside fenced yard for the dog that we purchased, and then one from the kitchen to the enclosed porch for the cats ( that's where their boxes are ) and they won't/don't go into the yard with the dogs...
We made 3 separate barn doors, painted and hung them. Every one of them has warped and no longer match up to the door openings. We even laid the wood out on the floor...

use a s za saw and cut the size you want. Then measure the piece of wood you are putting in and allow for trim around the edges. You will need hinges.
