We placed a cat hole in the wall of our laundry room that shared a wall with the garage. On the side of the wall in the garage we made and placed a large plywood box big enough for cats to walk in and use the litterbox. The cats can easily access the litterbox and yet remain warm in the winter with minimal tracking. This box had a removable lid to clean from the inside of the garage.
40" tall?? What kind of cats are they?
Be sure to cover it with a top and keep it clean. You can set it back between a box or wardrobe and the back wall or anything you store in your garage or put up a screen in front of it that may be used for a fireplace or something.
Must be a Maine Coon to need a box that big.
You can hang some cloth or a shower curtain around the box to hide it. You can put it under an existing shelf with cloth stapled to the shelf over the box.
I have my cat box in an old entertainment center from the 70's that I gutted and put an entrance in the side. Try a tall cabinet that has enough room for the height and an opening for you to clean it.
