The challenge was to repurpose something... I have a wood magazine rack that we just don't need anymore. And no one, I mean no one wanted it.
Then, my adult son decided to buy a kitten. And what do kittens need? A scratching post. We have a bunch of carpet in our garage from when we got new carpet...you know you keep it around just in case!
So I had an idea... make a scratching post out of the wooden magazine rack.
It turned out great! Added rope details on the edges. Now, I just hope the kitten likes it 😉...
Here's the magazine rack and carpet and the rope I used.
then used the staple gun to attach the side pieces first.
I traced out the sides, then did those first.
Here are both sides done.
The inside
Then wrapped all around it. And stapled all in place.
Finished product...
Added rope detail around the sides.
Voila! That's it, it looks and works great!

Fabulous idea. I have two cats, one loves to claw furniture. I'm definitely going to make one of these. Thanks for sharing your great project. (And all the other tips that the other hometalkers have shared.)

It would work great step for small puppy to get up and down a tall bed too. Don’t you think?
Did you say it was a step for cats..??
