Easy

  1. 1 9″ chair spring, you can buy these on easy or from a furniture making supply store
  2. 1 6″ grapevine wreath
  3. An assortment of mosses, I used Spanish moss, green moss, and some shredded straw for the actual nest
  4. I used a small piece of sheet moss to put down inside of the spring as a base for the nest
  5. Pods from a tree, or pinecones ( think about the natural things that a bird would add to a nest) some of this you can get at the Dollar Tree
  6. Twigs or curly willow
  7. A spring or two of faux greenery
  8. 1 bird
  9. 3 small faux eggs
  10. Twine
  11. Spray Glue
  12. Disposable gloves
  13. Glue gun
  14. Glue sticks

  • Roll up a piece of sheet moss and insert it into the spring, this creates a base for the nest
  • Hot glue the wreath onto the top of the spring
  • Wearing rubber gloves spray your assortment of mosses with spray glue and form into a nest with your hands
  • Place the nest inside of the wreath on the spring
  • Add some spring of curly willow around the edge of the nest with the glue gun
  • Add some pods or branch pieces to your nest just like a bird would, use the hot glue gun to attach
  • This is what your nest should look like at this point
  • Choose some small branches of faux and real to add into the nest
  • This is what the nest should look like after you have added the twigs and branches
  • Tie a bow around the nest with some twine
  • Add a few fake birds eggs
  • Add a bird
  • Enjoy!!!!!

Any ideas to recycle old patio solar lights? Have so many pieces laying around?

What fun. The spring is rather whimsical too. Only thing I would not have to add eggs. We have Carolina wrens (I think) and they have nests everywhere! Especially front door wreaths. First one cute but after that messy pain in the foot!

Thank you so much. I hope you give it a try. Maybe you can rescue an old nest from one of the wrens.
