DIY Bird Nests

Today I’m sharing DIY bird nests, a nest is especially good for early spring decorating. I looked on Pinterest for an example and decided to combine two techniques for my nests.
A DIY bird nests is particularly pretty to add to a cloche, books stacked inside an ironstone dish or used in a vignette on your table. Also, adding a small egg, a found feather or even leaving them empty is pretty from spring through summer when birds are active.

Items Needed:
- bird nests as seen below
- sticks you find in your yard
- moss
- hairspray
- spray adhesive
- leaves you find
- rubber gloves
How My Craft Started by Combining Two Techniques
After I decided to combine two techniques for the DIY bird nests, I began looking on Factory Direct Crafts online. I purchased a set of six nests.
So then, because the nests were lose I used hairspray to make them stiffer and also began forming a better shape.
Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of this step. However, when spraying the nests with hairspray I wear gloves because it will get sticky. Also, after forming the shape of the nest let dry.
If you’re doing the nests outside, you can skip using the hairspray. Spray adhesive does smell and this project is being done inside so I didn’t feel safe breathing too much spray adhesive.
Steps for Adding Sticks, Leaves and Moss
After, I have the correct shape, I gather sticks from my yard. So then, I cut sticks into random size pieces. Next, I began adding the sticks to my DIY bird nests. I also began adding small amounts of spray adhesive and pushed sticks into the nests. Also begin adding them to the exterior and interior of the nests for more texture.
Besides getting the shape I speak about above, I also did take advantage of the spray adhesive. Take the time to make sure your nest is the way you want and lightly squeeze into shape one more time.
I specifically did this to keep the sticks stable and to add them in other areas of the nests.
Finally, I add spray adhesive in spots and place green moss for more texture. After I was pleased with the moss I also added pieces of leaves that I found in our yard. This is an easy quick craft and is especially great for spring and summer months when birds are active.
Placing my nest and egg resting inside a glass cloche together with sticks is elegant and rustic. A French graphic sitting in a flower frog and an antique riser with curved feet is adding another bit of elegance for early spring.
As I begin decorating for spring, you will see two more of theses nests. Also, I hope this inspires you to to give this DIY a try for your decorating.

So I have to buy a birds nest before I add a few sticks to it?

Hi Laine, LOL you can always make your own nests with pine needles and THEN add a few sticks to it. SMH. Hi Sugar, you are fortunate to find them they are teeny tiny.

No these aren't really nests that I bought eventhough the description says so at the company I got them from.
Spanish moss will also work.
I had to add spray adhesive to create the shape of a nest.
