I recently experimented with expanding foam filler, I used it to make “snow” on a Christmas cottage project, and as I had a heap left over I decided to use it to make some little snow men. ⛄️

I started by spraying big clumps of foam onto some cardboard and left it to dry & harden.

The foam fill I used

Once it was dry, I used a spare blade from a Stanley knife to shape the clumps of foam into balls. I made the balls different sizes to suit the body & head.

Carving the foam

Next, I used toothpicks to attach the body parts.

Once the body was attached, I painted it with some white acrylic gloss paint.

I stood it up with some more toothpicks attached to extra foam while I painted it and let it dry.

Painting the foam

For the arms I cut up some artificial twigs that had broken off an arrangement I had and I just poked them through the foam.

An artificial stem I cut up for the arms

I cut a short length of ribbon and tied it loosely around the snowman’s neck for a scarf.

I made the nose using some orange play dough, I just rolled it and shaped it into a carrot and then left it to dry out and harden.

See my tutorial for play dough mini fruit: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/mi... it was ready, I pushed it into the head of the snow man to make an indent, and then removed it, put a dab of superglue on the end of it and then pushed it back in.

Lastly, I used some blank paint and the end of a toothpick to draw on the eyes, mouth and buttons.

Painting the features on the snow man

This was such a simple & cheap project. The best part being I used things I already had left over from other projects.

Can you remove the foam filler from whatever you spray it on when you are done with it? I have a cart I use at my job and I would like to spray/decorate it, but I can't if it won't come off when I am through with it.
