DIY Painted Farmhouse Style Books For Your Spring Decor

Spring DIY. Check out this DIY and others on the blog.

This is such a fun and affordable way to refresh your decor for spring. I am so excited to share you how to DIY painted farmhouse style books for your Spring decor.

You don’t have to worry about spending a ton on buying books. You can usually find these at thrift stores or at the Dollar Tree. Since we will be painting them we don’t need to worry about the color or contents.

Be sure that you use chalk paint, if you can.

It is super thick and will give you the best coverage, and need less coats.

We typically only need two coats to get the look we are striving for.

Our favorite chalk paint can be bought at Michaels or at Walmart.

Now add a second coat of paint. I would recommend you wait for paint to dry completely in between coats.

Be sure both coats are dry before moving on to the next step.

You can get creative and paint any color you want, for any season.

Now comes the fun part! Time too sand, you do not have to do this step, just if you are looking for an aged look.

Books tend to peel and crack over time, so this will give that true vintage look.

You can always peel off the binding of the book before you paint as well.

This gives a real aged look and can look amazing once you paint.

You can do as little or as much sanding as you like. I have even taken a sander to the edge of books.

Make sure to go down the creases and edges. Where time would wear on books after years of use.

I found this ribbon on the Christmas clearance aisle. I am always on the lookout for sales of items I can use in other seasons.

You can easily tie a bow around the books in a bunch. Another fun idea is to hot glue on some decor. For Valentine’s Day you could even add some hearts or colored floral around the top of the bow.

It’s that easy friends. Just have fun and create something beautiful that you can add to a table, shelf, or mantle this Spring.

I have a stack of old hardcover books that I was about to dispose of and this would be a perfect solution. The local friends of the library turned them down for the book sale and my local thrift store hates hard covers but I hesitated to toss in the garbage. Now I know what to do.

I have done several hardcover books like this and I use them to elevate things, etc. a candle holder and ceramic bird

I really love this idea. One question. Why did you Not trim the ends of the ribbon? Trimmed then frayed would look even more aged.
