Easy DIY Tall Candle Holder for Fall

There is something about tall candles on a dining room table. They instantly add a level of sophistication.

Have you seen the ceramic taper candle holders that look like plates? The ones that aren’t raised off the table, but sit directly on it? They hold those tall candles.

I love their simplicity. But they cost a little more than I want to spend.

So I decided to create a version of them myself. I don’t do ceramics, thus I needed to be a little creative.

This is my version of the ceramic-looking taper candle holder. It’s a very cheap and easy DIY tall candle holder.

In fact, you will need only three things (plus glue) to make it.

Supplies for a DIY Tall Candle Holder

  • 1 pack of 5.75” plastic plates (I got mine at the local dollar store)
  • 1” x ¾” PVC bushing (1 per plate)
  • Spray paint color of your choice
  • Hot glue gun & glue

How to Make Your Candle Holder for Taper Candles

Step 1: Prep your area for spray painting

Be sure and layout lots of newspapers or a painter’s cloth. Spray paint mist travels further than you think! Also, do your painting in a well-ventilated room, or outside (if it isn’t windy).

I have a cardboard box that I transformed into a contained spray paint enclosure, which is what you see below.

Step 2: Spray paint the plates and PVC bushing.

Note: if you use clear plates like I did, you will want to paint the top and bottom of the plates.

Be sure and apply multiple thin layers of spray paint and allow time to dry in between.

Step 3: Assemble your diy tall candle holder

Add hot glue (or glue of your choice) to the base of the painted PVC bushing. Center it on the painted plate.

Once dry, add your taper candle to your new diy candlestick holder.

Don’t you love these easy DIY tall candle holders?!

Crazy how easy it is!! And so cute! Image them on your dining table at your next gathering.

Your friends and family would never guess how cheap and simple they are to make. (That is, if you tell them, haha!)
