Evergreen Wreath Makeover for Winter

This past Christmas I purchased a live evergreen wreath for the first time from a school fundraiser. I enjoyed it so much and since it still looks good in January, I decided to remake it for a Winter wreath to use for a couple more weeks.

I needed a wreath for the winter months.

Once Christmas was over and the New Year had arrived I just didn’t want to take it down. It actually had held up really well in the unexpected warm days we had during the month of December in East TN. To me it was still pretty and still smelled wonderful.

January quickly brought cold and snow which inspired the new look for this evergreen wreath.

Everything I used to remake this evergreen Christmas wreath to a Winter themed evergreen wreath I pulled out of my craft stash or old Christmas décor.

You can find similar items online or just use what you have for your own version. Even if you don’t have an evergreen wreath available, this project can still be duplicated using a faux evergreen wreath as well.

To start, I removed everything off the wreath.

Then I created a new bow using ribbon I had impulsively picked up at Walmart back in October and my Deluxe EZ Bowmaker. One of my favorite purchases on Amazon!

This Holiday Time Line Art Ribbon from Walmart is adorable and I had no idea what I was going to use this ribbon for at the time but I liked the miniature houses on the ribbon, so I bought it. It is currently on clearance and I am tempted to buy more for next year.

For this evergreen wreath makeover, this is the only thing I actually spent money for.

These large pine cones from my craft stash were perfect for the makeover of this evergreen wreath.

Mine came from wooded areas surrounding my neighborhood but you can also find similar ones online.

For the January snow theme of the evergreen wreath, I painted the tips of each pine cone with white acrylic paint and allowed them to dry.

Also in my Christmas and craft stash, were these small felt snowballs.

I had used these for a snowball and pinecone garland created for a rustic Christmas tree a couple of years ago.

Using hot glue, I easily attached the large pine cones with clusters of the felt snowballs to the wreath.

If you don’t have a bag of felt snowballs, wool dryer balls or large pom poms will work just as well.

Since I already had the white acrylic paint out, on impulse I grabbed the brush and started adding white paint to the evergreen branches to mimic snow covered branches.

Finally the entire wreath looks perfect for some Wintery weather, which our forecast is predicting more for us this weekend. I am thrilled that I can continue to use this wreath for several more weeks.

I can enjoy this evergreen wreath even longer and just plan to replace it by March. Hopefully for early Spring weather.
