DIY Indoor Spring Container Gardening

Even though spring has officially arrived, it’s still too cold to plant most flowers outdoors. Being a flower farmer, I couldn’t wait to see some fresh flowers so I picked up a few plants from the store to make my own indoor spring planter. I just love having flowers in the house, especially this time of year! My favorite way to decorate for spring is with flowers! Today I’m going to show you how I made my own DIY indoor spring container garden. Read on to learn how to make an indoor spring planter…

4 primrose, 1 grape hyacinth, 1 white tulip

Next, I found this white planter to create my indoor container garden. I like to find pots that have a drainage hole in them so that the water can drain well. Keep in mind though that if you have a drainage hole, you will want to have something underneath your planter to catch any excess water. There’s nothing worse than finding your indoor planter warped your countertop or cabinet.

Time To Plant Your Indoor Spring Planter

Normally when working with soil I like to use my potting bench, but it was just too cold outside today! I decided to stay warm and put my indoor spring planter together inside. I filled my new white planter with potting soil and then brought it inside to plant the flowers. To keep the dirt from going everywhere, I placed a baking pan underneath the planter.

Next, I was ready to plant my flowers in the container. I started by planting two primroses next to each other. Then, I planted the tulips and hyacinth in the middle. Each time I removed the plants from their small containers, I carefully separated the root balls so the plants can start growing in their new space.

I finished the planter by adding the final two primroses. Once all the flowers were in the container, I used some extra potting soil to fill in any spaces that needed some fill. Then, I gave the planter some water so that the plants could hydrate. You can see the full process of creating this planter in the YouTube video below:

I had so much fun putting together this spring indoor planter! You will likely see this planter showing up in various places throughout my home. It will be perfect on the kitchen island, our dining room table, and even outside on the patio when the weather improves. I love these colors for spring, Easter, and even Mother’s Day!

Indoor planter makes the perfect spring centerpiece for our kitchen island.

I hope that my spring container garden has inspired you to bring some flowers indoors this spring. It’s also not too early to start thinking growing a cutting garden this summer. Be sure to check out my blog post on cutting gardens for beginners.

Happy Spring Planting!
