Today, I am going to show you how to make napkin rings for Fall. Y’all know that this year I am trying hard to share more DIYs on the blog. I’m so excited about what I have to share with you!

You can bet that if I’m sharing this DIY for napkin rings that it is an easy and affordable project! I don’t have enough experience (yet) to do anything that requires a lot of skill or costs a lot of money. My success rate is average (I’m just being honest) and I don’t have money to waste trying DIYs that are above my skill level. This DIY was a huge success! It is beautiful, functional, and (in my humble opinion) it’s definitely a keeper.

I love napkin rings! I know, it sounds strange, but it’s true. To me, napkin rings are table accessories. You add them to a table the same way you add earrings, a belt, or a necklace to your outfit. Like fashion accessories for your outfit, you don’t necessarily need napkin rings on your table, but they sure do enhance a table setting and make it even more special and beautiful. I especially love using napkin rings for the holidays.

Gather Around the Table

Fall is synonymous with gathering around the table. I love setting a beautiful table all year long, but I especially love tablescaping in the Fall and Winter. There is something about having family and friends around, eating delicious comfort food, and relishing in the season that makes setting the table more rewarding and fun than any other time of the year.

This year I decided I wanted to make something special for the table that was sentimental and came from my heart. My intension was to add my signature to the table for all those who gather around it. After giving it some thought and browsing through Pinterest, I came up with my idea. I was going to make my own napkin rings for Fall!

Sharing the Love (for Twine)

As I mentioned, this DIY was created after scrolling through Pinterest where I fell down a rabbit hole. It’s crazy how that happens! Do you have any idea how many “how-to” pumpkin crafts are on Pinterest!? Let me tell you, there are a lot! It didn’t take long before these sweet pumpkins made out of twine caught my eye.

Before I go on, you should know, I adore twine! I have a spool of twine on the counter in the kitchen and on my desk. I use twine for everything. Now I can add making pumpkin napkin rings to the list of many things I use twine for…Awe-some!

I know what you’re thinking… Pumpkins made out of twine?… Yes. How?… Thank you for asking!

Finding the Perfect Ring

The original twine pumpkins I saw on Pinterest were intended for decor, to put on a table or use on a tray. They were about the size of a grapefruit. Clearly, they were way too big for napkin rings. (Though they would make great conversational pieces at the table!) Now, the challenge was on. I needed to figure out a way to make tiny twine pumpkins that would fit on the top of a napkin ring. It took some trial and error, but eventually, I figured it out.

The ring these sweet little twine pumpkins were going to be attached to was my next challenge. What was I going to use as the “ring” for this project? After going through my own napkin ring collection, I decided I didn’t want to sacrifice any of them for this project. I only have a few sets of napkin rings, and I love them all. After a couple of unsuccessful visits to Goodwill and other second-hand stores looking for inexpensive napkin rings I could use for this DIY, I decided I would just try using ol’ faithful, twine. Although twine did work, I didn’t love the functionality of it. The twine loop was not easy to slip a linen napkin in and out of. Back to the drawing board!

I was on a mission to find the perfect (inexpensive) ring for my napkin ring idea. After lots of brainstorming, I found them, the perfect wood rings were at one of my favorite craft stores. The best part, they were only $2.39 for five rings. What a deal! The wood was lighter in color than I envisioned for my idea, so I brought them home and used some leftover stain I had in the paint cabinet. They turned out perfectly!

How to Make Napkin Rings for Fall

If I can make these napkin rings, you can too. All you need are five simple items to create DIY napkin rings that are perfect for your table this Fall: twine, floral wire, cinnamon sticks, rings, and a hot glue gun.

Once I got the hang of making the twine pumpkins, the assembly of the napkin rings was a sinch. I knocked out ten twine pumpkin napkin rings in less than a couple of hours while watching Netflix one night.

I also got creative and added some eucalyptus leaves and dried curly vines to my pumpkins. The eucalyptus and cinnamon smell amazing together. You can also add faux or dried flowers and leaves to the twine pumpkins or just keep them plain and simple. The fun part is making them your own.

Step by step

CUT AND WRAP:

Cut six 2-3 inch pieces of floral wire.

To make twine pumpkin sections (six of them), begin by wrapping the jute twine around your forefinger and your middle finger twelve to fifteen times. Cut the twine and secure the bundle by wrapping the floral wire around the twine and twist the wire tightly so the twine doesn’t unravel. Trim the extra length of wire sticking out. Fan the twine out so it looks fuller. Do this six times.

GLUE:

Use hot-glue to attach the first three sections of the twine pumpkin together. Gluing them one section at a time.

When the first three sections are glued together, add a dab of hot glue down the middle to attach the half of the cinnamon stick for the stem.

Finish gluing the remaining three sections of twine around the cinnamon stick in the center.

Turn twine pumpkin over. Add hot glue to the center of the pumpkin and attach the wood ring to the pumpkin.

DECORATE:

Decorate the twine pumpkin with dried or faux flowers, leaves, and curly vines. Make it your own!

I hope you love this Fall DYI as much as I do. If you make your own napkin rings for Fall, it would make my day to see your creations. Be sure to share them with me.
