How To Repurpose Your Spring Containers for Fall

Instead of packing away your seasonal containers, let me show you a simple way to repurpose them for the next season!

Let’s “Spring” into Autumn!

This tin wall pocket or planter box is embossed with the words “Spring Flower Garden Blooms”. For the Spring season , I had placed a bundle of faux herbs and one hydrangea stem in it.

Now that it is Fall, I thought about packing it away until next Spring. But then I realized that with the strategic placement of a bouquet of Autumn silk flowers, I could hide the word “Spring” and no one would know it was really a Spring decor item!

Preparing The Hand Tied Bouquet

First, I removed the greenery and the flowers from the tin wall pocket and gave it a good dusting. I decided to use the hydrangea head in a vignette in our front entryway. I took the bundle of mixed herbs apart and spread them out so that they had a flat back since this was going to be a one sided arrangement. Because the stems were individually wired, it was easy to bend the stems to make the bouquet look more natural and wispy.

It was easy to add a few silk fall leaves, some wispy natural colored twigs and two stems of golden toned accent flowers. I added a few Fall colored silk leaves as well.

After I had the flowers in place, I secured the stems with a rubber band to hold them together

Almost Ready to Wrap the Stems

I placed the bouquet in the wall pocket to check to make sure the bouquet was big enough to hide the word “Spring”. It was, so I moved on to the next step.

Handle Treatment

I used brown floral tape to wrap the stems. The floral tape sticks to itself as you stretch it around the stems. A gentle pull is all it takes. If you pull too hard, the tape will rip. The picture below is of the bouquet stems wrapped in the brown tape.

To do this, I started at the top of the handle (the stems) and tied a piece of twine. Then I wrapped the twine around the handle twice and tied a knot at the top.

To add more interest to the bouquets, I added a bow. I made a 3 loop bow out of the wired pumpkin printed burlap ribbon. The bouquet is ready to be placed in the container. No one will ever know that is says “Spring” behind the bouquet!

This project cost me nothing to make, except my time. I had everything on hand already. If you need to purchase additional silk flowers or some floral tape or perhaps ribbon, those can all be found at your local craft store or even a Dollar Store or similar.
