Light It up With a Snowman

I wanted a decoration to light up for Christmas, other than my usual pre-strung decorations (I have an angel and star). I also wanted to do something for my door other than a wreath. So, as I often do when I want to make a new craft, I wander around a store (in this case the dollar store) looking for inspiration. Sometimes, it's a color, or a shape, or something that makes me think of a new approach. Today, it was a little snowman head.

Now isn't that a friendly face?

First I used a sharp metal skewer to poke through the eyes (no pain was felt during this project by the snowman or me). I did it from the front so they would line up right, but, you can see them better from the back.

Here are the holes from the front. The fake wood was thin, or I would have used a drill. Instead I pushed through onto my wood carving board.

I have developed a true appreciation for battery powered light sets this year. So that's what I used for the eyes. I made sure they fit snug before securing the rest of the strand to his head. If you're lucky, they often have battery powered light sets at the dollar store. This set was from Walmart for less than $4. So $5 spent so far.

Next I figured out how to drape the lights around his hat and secure them to the back with tape, which I had on hand.

Here he is on my door. He's cuter in person! Be sure to use a strong tape to hold the battery pack!
