Spring Fiesta Wreath

4 Materials
Here in San Antonio, spring means Fiesta! For two weeks in April, the entire city celebrates Fiesta (a tradition started in the 1800s to commemorate the battle of the Alamo) with parades, parties, and brightly colored wreaths on doors throughout town. You can make your own Fiesta inspired wreath with this easy tutorial that uses silk flowers, ribbon scraps, and cupcake wrappers!

Fiesta wreaths are known for their brightly colored flowers. They are traditionally tissue paper flowers but I chose to use a mix of silk flowers and flowers made from cupcake wrappers for this wreath.

The bright flowers and ribbons make the wreaths so eye-catching on your front door!

Supplies:
  • Foam wreath form
  • Silk flowers in bright colors
  • Colorful cupcake wrappers
  • Ribbon scraps
  • Hot glue gun

Step 1: Start by cutting the flowers from their stem with wire cutters. Leave a half inch of the stem so you can use that to poke the flower into the wreath form.

Step 2: Poke the flowers into the foam wreath form. They will stay in place without glue, but you can add a dab of hot glue at the base to make them extra secure if you like.

Step 3: Continue adding flowers to wreath form until it is nearly full. Don't forget to add flowers to the sides of the wreath!

Step 4: Fill in gaps with cupcake wrapper flowers. You can find the simple tutorial for making these flowers here.

Step 5: Finish the wreath by adding a variety of long ribbon straps to the base. Attach them with a dab of hot glue on the back side of the wreath form. These long ribbons are another traditional feature of the Fiesta wreaths!

Hang on your front door and await all the compliments from your neighbors! ;)
