Teal pumpkins placed by your door is a symbol to let parents know that non-food (allergy free) goodies are available for trick or treater's on Halloween. I wrote a post about the Teal Pumpkin Project last year, and this year I have added to my teal decor by making an easy sew teal pumpkin pillow and teal fabric pumpkins. The Teal Pumpkin Project was born out of the need to keep 6 million children with food allergies safe on Halloween. Living with food allergies is a constant struggle. So together we can keep kids safe on Halloween. It's easy to be part of the Teal Pumpkin Project movement and we have a ton of teal pumpkin ideas to inspire you.

To get ready for food allergy free Halloween you have to do some planning.

  • Print out the Teal Pumpkin Project sign
  • Order non-food goodies (see below)
  • Craft some teal pumpkins

My picks for Teal Pumpkin Project

  • Party packs
  • Garden flag
  • Tee shirt
  • Pumpkin decorating kit
  • Door sign
  • 35″ Inflatable teal pumpkin

After printing out the pumpkin pattern I decided to use buffalo check and add a teal pumpkin applique. I wanted to add orange, but it was overwhelming so I added just an orange embroidery floss bow (I did not use the orange felt in the photo).

Sewing tip: Pattern match the buffalo check when cutting so the checks will lineup when you sew the front to the back of the pillow.

Important sewing tip: mark your applique placement with a water soluble marker. Note: see the blue X in the center? That marks the center of the fabric which guides you with placement.

After the pumpkin applique was ironed onto the buffalo check pillow front with Wonder Under I used two embroidery threads and blanket stitched around the pumpkin and stem. Then I added the orange embroidery floss bow. Next I added the invisible zipper and stitched up the other three sides. Note: I pattern matched the buffalo check pattern. See the complete sewing and cutting directions in this post.

I could not stop there since the fabric was on my cutting table I had to make some easy sew pumpkins with the leftover fabric. I used my pumpkin pattern from my Easy Sewing Fabric Pumpkins post.

Decorating the front porch with Teal pumpkins

I decided to create more of my teal pumpkins ideas for Halloween this year. I started by making a cute teal pumpkin applique pillow by using my pattern from an earlier post. You can see how I made it there too. I used black and white buffalo check fabric for the pillow and then I added a teal pumpkin applique and orange bow. Super simple and perfect for the bench on the front porch.

Lanterns

Lanterns that I used as my prototype for my solar light lanterns on my trellis were just sitting on the porch of my studio in need of some love. So why not spray paint them and use them for outdoor decorating? I added a glass candle holder that I purchased from the Dollar Tree after I painted it with black spray paint too. Then added one of those cute fabric pumpkins and I tied a bow on it.

Adding a little more fun to my Halloween porch with more fun pillows. The kids will love this kitty pillow peeking out of my handmade wooden tote!

Buffalo check fabric pillow with easy sew teal pumpkin applique. So fun and easy to make. Welcome guests with teal pumpkins this fall, Thanksgiving, and Halloween. Grab your free pattern and easy step by step directions.

Happy Fall,
